How to mount recessed spotlights to the ceiling or false ceiling
The
recessed spotlight is able to give a warm and refined atmosphere to various
types of environment. This lighting solution is increasingly chosen by
designers. The spotlights can light up correctly, keeping a clean line on the
ceiling and leaving the light to furnish, not the luminous appliance! Let's see
how to install recessed spotlights!
How to install recessed spotlights: the false ceiling
Let's
start by making a necessary distinction. The installation procedure is very
different depending on whether the spotlights we want to place have the
external lighting fixture or not. In the first case screws and dowels will be
enough to fix the device, in the other case a plasterboard false ceiling will
be needed to hide the body.
A
false ceiling with spotlights is the ideal solution for particularly low rooms
that would be weighed down by installing ceiling lights or suspensions. It is
also, a useful idea to integrate light intensity into a room with indirect or
accent light.
It
will also be possible to choose an even more neutral solution by installing a
model of concealed plaster spotlight for false ceiling. In this way, you will
have the illusion of not having any lighting fixture visible on your ceiling.
In
addition, it is also advisable to choose spotlights with LED lights, able to
guarantee cost savings, but without sacrificing good light output.
Spotlights false ceiling position
There
are no universal rules for understanding how to place the spotlights in the
false ceiling. The right distance between spotlights depends on various
factors: the size of a room, the type of lighting they are intended for, the
amount of light required for the activities to be carried out in that
environment and the power of the individual spotlight...
If
the spotlights serve only as indirect light, then it is clear that they will be
placed in the peripheral areas of the room. Otherwise, they will have to be
distributed equally in the space by arranging them in one or more rows. To
understand how many spotlights will be needed and at what distance to install
them, it will be necessary to calculate the necessary lumens starting from:
power of the single spotlight, room measurements and lux required for the
environment.
Once
the required calculations have been made, take the measurements of the relative
distances, leaving a uniform gap between all the lighting bodies. Mark, using a
pencil, the bulk of the spotlights where you will then have to drill holes with
the drill.

Before
moving on to the actual operational phase, we remind you that this type of work
is potentially risky. If you do not already have experience in this field, you
should trust or be assisted by someone who already knows how to move!
Prepare the false ceiling
What do you
need to mount the recessed spotlights? After choosing the lighting fixtures to
be assembled, procure a drill with a cupped tip, putty, electric cables, and
insulating tape and screwdrivers. To work safely, it will be necessary to
switch off the electricity supply.
First you
need to use the hole saw to create the holes needed to set the spotlights. The
holes made with the drill will be finished with stucco. Finally, it will be
necessary to uniformly paint the false ceiling.
How to connect LED spotlights in series
The greatest
difficulty in installing the spotlights lies in the fact that unlike
chandeliers or ceiling lights, there are many lighting fixtures and therefore
only one electrical output is not sufficient. Depending on the total number of
spotlights, the system must be designed differently.
Generally
speaking, it is possible to start only one electric line to which all the
spotlights are connected in parallel in the same circuit. But if, for example,
we want to divide the spotlights into several groups (which can be switched on
and off separately), then it will be convenient to set up several lines (with
relative connections in parallel) that can flow to different switches (or to
the same switch with switch).

The last
action is to connect the spotlights to the power line: first of all, you need to
connect the power supply to the mains, then you will connect the spotlight to
the power supply just mentioned. The last operation consists in fixing the
spotlight to the hole made in the plasterboard.
